A Neat Prayer

(one worth reflecting on)

Heavenly King and Comforter, Spirit of Truth and Giver of Life, You Who are in all places and fill all things:

Come and abide in us, cleansing us from every sin.

Remember, O Lord Jesus Christ, Your eternal mercies and loving kindness, for the sake of which You became flesh, endured crucifixion and suffered death, obtaining salvation for all who believe in you. You rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and now sit at the right hand of God the Father, where you regard the prayers of all who call on you. Incline Your ear and hear the humble entreaty that we your unprofitable servants offer as a pleasing spiritual fragrance for all your people.

Remember your holy Church, purchased with Your precious blood. Confirm and strengthen, enlarge and multiply her. Grant peace within your Body and preserve it unconquerable by the gates of hell forever. Heal the schisms that separate the churches. Quench the raging of nonbelievers within the Church. By the power of Your Holy Spirit bring to an end the growth of heresies that your Truth may be clearly heard.

Lord Jesus Christ, Who did command us to love our enemies, and those who defame and injure us, and to pray for them and forgive them; Who yourself did pray for your enemies, who crucified you: grant us, we pray, the spirit of Christian reconciliation and meekness, that we may heartily forgive every injury and be reconciled with our enemies.

Grant us to overcome the hatred, ill will and offenses of people with humility and true love of our neighbor. We further beg you, O Lord, to grant to our enemies true peace and forgiveness of sins. Do not allow them to leave this life without true faith and sincere conversion. Help us repay evil with goodness. Protect us from the temptations of the devil and from all perils which threaten us in the form of visible and invisible enemies.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on those who seek to serve without pure motives. Release the grip of the Evil One and lead them to repentance. Guide those who encourage sin and those who are blinded by false teachings. Heal their souls. Forgive us Lord for being silent when we should have spoken or for speaking when we should have been silent such that we encouraged those in unrepentant sin.

Have mercy upon the Session of Caledonia Church [Your Children] which you have established to feed and lead your flock. Guide them [us] by your Word and Spirit in this difficult time; speak to them [us] clearly.

Help us in all things to rely upon your holy will. Teach us to treat all that comes to us with peace of soul and with firm conviction that your will governs all. In all our deeds and words, guide our thoughts and feelings. Teach us to act firmly and wisely, without embittering or embarrassing others.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on us all. Amen.
