How We Find Out What God Plans To Do - 10/18/2009

Today's Mental Image:

The Public Address System

Whatever the LORD God plans to do,

he tells his servants,

the prophets.
Amos 3:7 [CEV]

Today's prophets may not speak forth new scriptures. Certainly, the New Testament is clear (when addressing the Old Testament scriptures) - "all scripture is God breathed and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. The Scripture we have is sufficient. I have no quarrel with these truth statements. In fact an examination of the basic messages of the Prophets reveals that they, and Moses, all give the same basic warnings, instructions in righteousness, and encouragements plus application to their own day as well.

God still uses his living prophets the same way - "Whatever the LORD God plans to do, he tells his servants, the prophets." Nonetheless we generally don't listen. Neither did many of the people in biblical history. Further, neither do we accept a ministry as prophetic if the person is our pastor or a member of our own church. We dissect the message, if it is a warning, until we can disclaim it, or declare it to be "for those other people."

How poor we are spiritually, how immature, because we neglect the ministry of Amos 3:7!
