Take A Stand For Christian Liberty -10/16/2009

Today's Mental Image:

The Statue of Liberty Church

TAKE A STAND FOR LIBERTY!

The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Emma Lazarus

A New Colossus For Time And History
-
Let the Church, once more, become the Terminal serving this world's fleeing masses, the Gateway to the realization of hopes and dreams birthed through a new life in Jesus Christ.

The Bride Of Christ and History
(What if the church adopted the statue of liberty poem as a call to Christian Liberty on Earth's Shores.  We might even become more biblical.)

Not like the brazen giant of earthly fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the unchained lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles.

From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbors that earth's horizons frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!"
With silent lips she cries,
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to be free,

The wretched refuse of earth's teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
