WHAT THE NEW GENERATION REALLY
THINKS ABOUT CHRISTIANITY
. . . AND WHY IT MATTERS

The words quoted below represent what has most often been my own experience of Christians(as a pastor). I could cite strong, destructive examples of each statement with myself often being the victim of unChristian Christians. Thank God, I have also been in churches where the majority image/reality was not unChristian.
"... many Christians get defensive even talking about the perception of being judgmental. Just because others feel judged is not a reason for us to change our beliefs. If Christians do not point out God's standards, who will? This book repeatedly emphasizes this key biblical concept: pointing people to Jesus is not achieved by being popular. The outrage of outsiders does not change or diminish God's expectations. People still have to answer to a holy judge.
"Yet an entire generation of those inside and outside the church are questioning our motives as Christians. They believe we are more interested in proving we are right than that God is right. They say Christians are more focused on condemning people than helping people become more like Jesus ...
"Being judgmental pushes people way from God's purposes, and people become repulsed by an image of Jesus that is not at all like the real thing. When Christians are ... quick to find fault, we are unChristiain.
"The common theme ... is that Christians often err on the side of being quick to judge others, even fellow believers, feeling as though they know the answers, as though they know what God must think ... we need to understand how we judge people inappropriately."
