Was It God's Anger?

The Minor Prophets Speak to Today

Was It God's Anger?

Habakkuk 3:8-15

I trembled inside when I heard this;
my lips quivered with fear.
My legs gave way beneath me,
and I shook in terror.
Habakkuk 3:16
Do not pray for God to remove his hand of salvation
no matter how terrible it may seem.

Many a Christian mother's son has gone to hell - or at least into a life of wickedness - because she prayed against God's salvation.

"You're crazy!"  you say.

But am I? Read below what the coming of God's salvation looks like. To visualize it made Habakkuk quiver with fear and shake with terror to the point his legs gave out.

- - -
Were you angry with the rivers, Lord?
Was your wrath against the streams?
Did you rage against the sea
when you rode your horses
and your chariots to victory?
 You uncovered your bow,
you called for many arrows.
You split the earth with rivers;
 the mountains saw you and writhed.
Torrents of water swept by;
the deep roared
and lifted its waves on high.

 Sun and moon stood still in the heavens
at the glint of your flying arrows,
at the lightning of your flashing spear.
 In wrath you strode through the earth
and in anger you threshed the nations.
 You came out to deliver your people,
to save your anointed one.
You crushed the leader of the land of wickedness,
you stripped him from head to foot.
With his own spear you pierced his head
when his warriors stormed out to scatter us,
gloating as though about to devour
the wretched who were in hiding.
You trampled the sea with your horses,
churning the great waters.
Habakkuk 3:8-15

Are you willing to let God do whatever He knows it takes to bring about the salvation of someone you know or love? Or are you praying against the methods God knows will change their way of living?

Many a mother has prayed for God to spare their child from the terror need to effect their salvation and have begged and pleaded with God to the point he relented - waiting for that mother to repent of her interference.

And can you blame them?  The fear of Lord - which is the beginning of wisdom and thus salvation - is a real fear.  Such mothers are so afraid of what they know God would have to do - and loved their children more than their God - that they could not face the price of redemption.

Spare their life to save their soul - yes!

But do not pray for God to remove his hand of salvation no matter how terrible it may seem.
