“How can two walk together unless they are in agreement?”
(reference Amos 3:3)
- How can two walk together unless they both exercise their will in the same direction?
- How can two walk together unless they have to decided when they're going to meet?
- How can two walk together unless they have to decided where they are going to go?
- How can two walk together unless they have to decided how they're going to get there?
If the decision of their wills is not the same then they will not walk together.
Now let's apply this to Micah 6:8:
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
How can two - God and you - walk together unless you are in agreement?"
- How can you walk together with God if you are not going the same direction?
- How can you walk together with God if you have not even met or come back together?
- How can you walk together with God if you do not agree on where you are going?
- How can you walk together with God if you do not agree on how you are going to get there?
If you are walking with God but not in agreement on some point, of course, if you can choose to keep going with Him despite the disagreement. But if by your doing, you are not in agreement with God on any of the above factors, in those moments you will not be walking together.
The key element is not "being in agreement." The key element is walking united or, more precisely, being united in walking.
