There is something in our culture that fights against allowing solitude.

We tend to associate seasons of solitude with loneliness, isolation, and even hopelessness.

This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says:

"In returning and rest you shall be saved;

In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.

but you would have none of it."

But when we make it our friend, solitude is not a futile exercise in loneliness but a life-giving practice that enriches our hearts with the powerful gifts of clarity, cleansing, and strength.  It brings to our core an even greater gift!  Identity!
