If Calvary Covers It All, Then Why Do We Have To ...?

If Calvary Covers It All
Then Why Do We Have To ...

PART 1:
Turn from Your Evil Ways

"This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: 'Turn from your evil ways, and stop all your evil practices.'" Zechariah 1:4 NLT

God's message remains the same today under grace. Calvary covers it all so we are no longer slave to sin - but we are still called to stop all of our evil practices - both individually and corporately. No longer being slaves means we are free to stop those practices.

The Believer’s Freedom
“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. 1 Corinthians 10:23 NIV

PART 2:
Or Receive What We Deserve

"‘ ..everything I said through my servants the prophets happened to your ancestors, just as I said. As a result, they repented and said, ‘We have received what we deserved from the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. He has done what he said he would do.’” Zechariah 1:6 NLT
Grace covers the eternal consequences of Christians' sins. There is, however, controversy regarding whether grace covers the earthly consequences of our sins. I find little or no support for grace preventing the judgments of God falling upon us in this life when we sin after while we are Christian. The same call goes out to sinning Christians and churches as to those not yet under grace:

"'Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.’" Zechariah 1:2 NLT

Consequences are God's call upon our lives to repent and stop our evil practices. Sometimes he adds other evils to our lives to show his displeasure, judgments to hopefully crack our hard hearts and ready us for repenting in mind and body as well as soul and spirit. May our results be the same as the Old Israel's - repentance and confessing that we have received what we deserved.
