WHEN GOD CREATES A CRISIS IN LEADERSHIP

15 Then the Lord said to me, “Go again and play the part of a worthless shepherd. 16 This illustrates how I will give this nation a shepherd who will not care for those who are dying, nor look after the young, nor heal the injured, nor feed the healthy. Instead, this shepherd will eat the meat of the fattest sheep and tear off their hooves.

Zechariah 11:15-16New Living Translation (NLT)

Play The Part of a Morally Deficient, Corrupt Shepherd!

We have our ideas of what a "worthless shepherd" is. But God has a definition. Speaking in the language of the day, Zechariah knew that God meant a morally deficient, corrupt shepherd. And here God calls his trusted servant, the best of the best of his servants to play the part of this kind of worthless leader.

Even though the 'victims' of Zechariah's hands would be sheep, even though these sheep were already marked for slaughter, Zechariah must have felt like wretching. How could a righteous man, a caring and sensitive man, feel good about such devastation?

It is one thing to kill and eat. It is another to neglect, to just leave the dying to die in misery, to leave the young to the terrors of the world, to leave wounds uncleaned, to be infected, rot, and stink. To tear off the hooves of the best of the best while wantonly eating their flesh.

This is the Kind of Shepherd I - God - Will Give the Flock Marked for Slaughter

When God sends such a leader to nations, to churches, to the world, we can know that we have been marked by God for slaughter. Once again, God is illustrating in advance what he has already decided will happen so that when it does the people will know exactly what is going on.

This is the end of blessing. This is the end of democracy. This is the end of good leaders and good leadership. This may even be the end of civility, even of the modicum of freedom to which we lay claim.

No, this is not inspired by the political affairs of the United States or Russia, of Israel, nor any other nation. This is the lesson written down by the prophets, illustrated again and again throughout history, and now happening in the present, the act of history in which we are caught.

Why does God only present us men and women to govern who are not fit for the position? Who are morally reprobate but claim to be Christian? Who are oppressors themselves or play to the oppressors, the holders of filthy riches, even blood money? Why?

Because, while we claim to be in control of who will govern us, we are not. God never turned that final decision over to us even in a democracy. He has always controlled even the democratic processes, the choices being presented and the way they are presented.

How foolish that we thought he handed us his decision making just because we created systems designed to honor the citizens. God has not given up his control.

God has hardened the hearts of the masses, God has raised up the candidates by letting us reap the will of our own hands or let the oligarchies and their other, worldly bedfellows put their ways into control.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof is destruction. The truth of this wisdom, spoken twice in the book of Proverbs, defines what is happening in our lands today!

I will give this nation a shepherd

who will not care for those who are dying, nor

look after the young, nor heal the injured, nor

feed the healthy.

Instead, this shepherd will eat the meat of the

fattest sheep and tear off their hooves.

This already has and is coming to pass.
